The Last Time

Papita got food poisoning

Dear Dog Parents,

Do you remember the last time your furry friend had food poisoning? Well, just the other night I heard some rustling in the other room, and I got up to see what was going on. I figured it was Papita making the racket, since she wasn’t at the foot of our bed, as she was when I fell asleep. Without turning on any lights, and without grabbing my glasses, I meandered to the source of the noise, and I saw (or maybe I imagined) Papa hanging out on Arí’s play mat. Her presence there didn’t seem out of the ordinary since she either lounges on the mat, on her bed, or in our bed. Although, she has recently been setting up shop on one of the pillows in Arí’s bed, which explains why I’ve been noticing the distinct smell of ‘dog who needs a bath’ when I lay down on that pillow. In any case, as I peered blindly around the dark room, I sniffed for the smell of poop and smelled none; I concluded that no dumps had been deposited. I may have noticed Papa near the front door suggesting that she needed to go out, but I convinced myself that going downstairs was not option since it must have been rather early in the AM. I went back to bed.

“No, Arí, don’t touch that! Alan! Papa threw up and pooped on the baby’s mat.” These were the sounds that greeted me the next morning. Could I have saved Yeye from cleaning several individual squares of the baby’s mat (it’s one of those puzzle mats with lots of crevices for the poop to infiltrate)? Possibly. Could a late night bathroom run have delivered Yeye from trying to get poop out of the crannies of Arí’s keyboard (yup, Papa pooped on the keyboard too)? Maybe. Was I secretly relieved that Papa opted not to shit all over the pile of my laundry that was in the vicinity? Of course. But the deed was done. Yeye valiantly busted out the vinegar and alcohol to disinfect the scene, and the day carried on as usual. We just have to buy some more cleaning supplies.
